Top Hat teaches ballroom dancing at the social level in the Huntington and Barboursville areas. We have students from around the Huntington Tri-State area including Huntington, Barboursville, Ona, Glenwood, Kenova, Wayne, Milton and Culloden, WV. We also have students from Chesapeake, Proctorville, South Point and Ironton, OH as well as Eastern Kentucky including Ashland and Rush.

Top Hat uses the Dance Vision International Syllabus which is recognized by The National Dance Council of America ®. Our group classes follow specific guidelines that build a basic understanding of the dances and how they relate to each other. This understanding of the basics helps students progress at a quicker pace when they reach more advanced levels.

Group and private lessons are available. Top Hat teaches beginner classes in groups of three dances; the Smooth dances include Waltz, Fox Trot, and Tango. The Rhythm dances include Cha-Cha, Rumba and East Coast Swing. Top Hat also teaches other Latin Dances like Samba, Merengue, Bolero and Mambo.

Thursday evenings Top Hat holds a special class called, “Dance Grooves” that is for people who would like to learn Latin dancing but do not have a partner. The class focuses on learning the proper movement and technique for dancing so that students would be able to dance with a partner at social functions. This class, like all dance classes, is a great workout!

Paul and Gail Patton have been dancing in the Huntington area for over five years. Their love for ballroom dancing is apparent in their teaching, but also in the regular dance parties that are held at Top Hat. Dance parties are held at least once a month. Often there is a mini-lesson during the evening on one of the dances such as Night Club Two Step. The beautiful room and over 1400 square foot dance floor make the parties lots of fun and a great way to spend an enjoyable evening.
